The Beijing Times has reported that a farmer with acute anaemia committed armed robbery. The motive, however, was a little unusual. He wanted to take advantage of the free medical treatment he would receive in prison. The farmer held up and then stole a taxi in Miyun County with the sole purpose of being thrown back in jail, from which he had been recently paroled. During his first spell in prison he discovered that inmates got free medical treatment if their families could not afford it.The man was sentenced to 18 years and according to the newspaper did not look unduly disappointed with the verdict.
