In the movie Caddyshack, there’s a golf-obsessed surgeon who frequently keeps his patients waiting while he ‘gets in’ 9 holes. Cao Longbao may be wondering whether he’s discovered the Chinese equivalent. Cao was recently admitted to a Shanghai hospital, reports the Oriental Morning Post, and given a general anaesthetic. He lay unconscious for an hour, before being wheeled back to his ward by the nurse. A surprised Cao told the nurse that, strangely, he wasn’t feeling any different. It soon became evident why, as the surgeon rushed in with the news that he had “forgotten” to perform the surgery.
It’s not clear whether this error was due to a trip to the golf course or something more traditional, like a game of mahjong. Happily the forgetful surgeon finally did his duty, removing three polypi from Cao’s intestine.
