Burning down your house is an unusual way to make a point. For a woman from Shandong province it was evidently a last resort as she struggled with her husband’s internet addiction.
According to the Qili Evening News, Mrs Chen was furious that her husband spent all his time playing Happy Farm (see WiC28), and “refused to do any housework and completely neglected his 3 year-old son.” So she set fire to the house while he was inside playing the game. Her husband – a 45 year-old professor at a local medical college – managed to put it out. Then he promptly decamped to a local internet café where he continued playing the game.
