Not on the list

Uninvited guests are usually unwelcome, and that can be especially true at a wedding. But at a recent nuptial in Shenzhen, perhaps the most unwelcome of all guests crashed the ceremony: the groom’s mistress. In an incident that was posted on videosharing site Youku, a fight breaks out between the bride and the heavily pregnant mistress – who turns up at the wedding banquet in a wedding gown claiming to have the groom’s child in her belly. The video makes for somewhat surreal viewing as the pair of women first shout abuse at each other and then wrestle on the ground. Amid the screaming the wife shouts: “You didn’t have an abortion while you could and now you come here with your big stomach.” For three minutes or so the pandemonium goes on, with the wife also alleging that the mistress has merely got pregnant for financial gain: “How do I know whose kid it is? Are you trying to coerce us into buying you a house?” The groom himself looks mostly dumbfounded throughout the video – shot, it would seem, on a smartphone – though he eventually pulls the wrestling women apart with the help of some waiters. In the annals of wedding nightmares, this one must rank high…
