Song Binbin laments the violence of the Cultural Revolution. She took part in a special ceremony at a Beijing school last week where former Red Guards bowed before a statue of Bian Zhongyun, the first teacher to be beaten to death during the period. Song now expresses remorse for what happened. Known as ‘Martial Song’, she was one of the student leaders of the era, presenting an armband to Mao Zedong in Tiananmen Square in 1966 (see photo).
