Renren boss Chen Yizhou tells the Wall Street Journal why he invested in Vipshop, the website specialising in discounted ‘flash sales’ of fashion goods. Chen says he realised that Vipshop isn’t competing with the main internet players in China (the Roman army) but more with mom-and-pop apparel shops in fourth-tier cities.
