Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger were unlikely siblings. That was the premise behind the 1988 film Twins. But a Yiwu businessman has had doubts about his own twins, even if the differences between his two sons is less marked than between DeVito and Arnie. According to Hunan Daily, they were born last September, but the father was puzzled that the elder of the pair had double-fold eyelids, while he and the mother had single-fold. Suspicious, he took the babies for a paternity test. The result was that while the younger twin had his DNA, the elder was not in fact his son. The businessman then conceded to the newspaper that the mother was not actually his wife, but his mistress. And he’s belatedly discovered that she was philandering too, which explains how she produced twins with separate fathers.
Twins with different dads is unusual. According to website Babycenter.com, only about one in 400 sets of fraternal twins is ‘bipaternal’. The site explains that this occurs when a woman ovulates two healthy eggs during her five-day fertility window and two separate men fertilise the eggs via intercourse.
Anyway our Yiwu businessman was none too impressed and he has dumped his mistress. “I certainly want to keep my child, but I’m unwilling to raise the other’s child,” he told Hunan Daily.
