The quotation from Chairman Mao that the UK’s Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell used in parliament last week, as he brandished Mao’s Little Red Book at George Osborne, his opposite number. McDonnell later told the BBC that his tossing of the Mao tract towards Osborne was a joke, and meant to critique the sell-off of “British assets to the Chinese”.
