Planet China

Making a splash

Images of China’s latest rain gear for toddlers have gone viral in the past week. Sold on Taobao, the rain protectors have won plaudits for keeping little ones dry. But their design has earned even more comment. One netizen said they make the children look like miniature UFOs, while another went further, saying the rain gear was like a walking advertisement for condoms.

WiC has its doubts the items will sell well outside China.
