China’s ambassador to the US Qin Gang speaks during a visit to the Soong Sisters Gallery at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia last Friday. Qin said the three sisters were an example of “people-to-people exchanges”. Soong Ching-ling married Sun Yat-sen, who is widely recognised as the founder of the Chinese republic, and her younger sister Mei-ling became Chiang Kai-shek’s influential wife. The sisters’ alma mater retains a connection to China through its dual degree partnership with Guangzhou University.
