With a name said to be inspired by a combination of ‘Generation Z’ and ‘geek’, ZEEKR was created by the carmaker Geely in March 2021 as a premium brand for its battery-powered vehicles.
Cars are being designed around Geely’s Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) platform at the company’s specialist R&D facility in Gothenburg in Sweden. Deliveries of the first model, the 001, started this year and ZEEKR has plans to introduce 6 different cars to the market. It also announced last December that it will be working with Waymo, the Alphabet subsidiary, to develop an all-electric robotaxi for the US market.
Investors including Intel Capital, video-sharing platform Bilibili and battery maker CATL joined Geely in seed round financings in 2021.
